I love \"The presanctified Holy Gifts are for the presanctified\"! Our priest has not done it yet, but it would be hilarious. Embarassing: 1- Last year druing one of the Holy Week services, one of the choir members was playing dangerously with his candle, and I remember being worried (one of my old churches got completely burned down by fire). He eventually did drop his candle on the carpet, and I, instead of hurrying to pick it up and put the fire off, burst out laughing! Uncontrollably for the next two chants. It must have the tension/anxiety but it was very embarrassing. 2- Also, during Presanctified Liturgy last Wednesday, the acolyte was opening the south doors for the priest to enter back into the Altar when he hit a glass lamp cover, and it broke into hundreds of pieces. He had no idea where that cover came from, the poor guy. I struggled to continue chanting, and I managed not to burst out laughing :)

I agree wtith Somsoc that, at least at some point, we should be calling ourselves \"Orthodox Christian\". In this website, this shouldn\'t cause any confusion, and there probably shouldn\'t be any need for details about jurisdiction. But I also experience the confusion of non-Orthodox when I tell them I\'m \"Orthodox Christian\". Even though the \"Christian\" is there, there are still some people who associate it with Judaism. Another confusion arises in the Antiochian Patriarchate, which is officially called \"The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch And All the East\". The members of this patriarchate, at least in Lebanon and Syria, are called \"Greek Orthodox\", and have to explain that they are not really Greek, and go over all the history of the relationship between the Patriarchate and the Greeks...

I agree with Cyprian, frj1951, that is a good answer. But can we not be Orthodox without being holy and perfect? Isn\'t it ok to be sinful (but repentant) and be \"Orthodox Chrisitans\" or members of the Orthodox Christan Church?

Where did G.E.H. Palmer, Philip Sherrard, and Bishop Ware translate the first volume of the Philokalia into English? Was it in London or on Mt. Athos? Or neither? This is an important research question. It was first published in London. Glory to God!

What is everyone\'s favorite fasting meal? Or just favorite fasting food. Maybe you have more than one, I would like to hear it. Maybe you have just discovered a new one or maybe it is a long time favorite, or maybe you have seasonal ones since the meals tend to change thusly. it is a bit of a poll but I am looking for more in depth answers than a poll might give... My question is what exactly are the terms of being cradle Orthodox vs a Convert? Is it a child before the age of 7 being baptised into the Church? Is it a person whose family is Orthodox, even if they couldn\'t become baptised for some reason or another? Can a person be cradle when their parents convert when the child is still at a young age? Or, is there a \"right\" answer? Anyway, much appreciation in advance. In Christ, Xenia

I would have to say I am looking for the quick answer to tell people, because I always seem to get into the thick of it anyway. (Talking is one of my struggles, I seem to have a knack for it). That isn\'t necessarily a bad thing, but I think I was also just curious if there was some other way to describe it, or if I \"fit\" into one or the other because I never gave it much thought before...I guess I am just a \"cradle convert\" and that works for me. My question really pertains to me...I was 3 when baptised, grew up Orthodox and do not find as much common ground with converts as I do with cradle. I am from a convert family and technically my brother is the only \"true\" cradle by that definition, since my mom and sister\'s and I were baptised together (younger sis being only 6 mos., but not \"born\" into it). There are many \"cradle families\" who do not baptise until children are older and also some who baptise because it is the thing to do, so to speak, not because those children will be raised in the Faith daily. So, I guess I am wondering where that leaves me...I am neither \"here nor there\" it seems. It isn\'t that it matters that much, but I am assuming I am not the only one.

I have a friend who is unhappy with the state of the Anglican church here in america and has been to our church a bit ago, just for a visit on a wedsnesday (that is how I met her). She actually grew up in an Anglican church with a priest who had a very \'Roman\' background...he used incense and things(one of the reasons she really liked our church). I mentioned a little bit of the roots of the Antiochian church and Western Rite Orthodox churches from what I had learned from a few people on OC and she is interested in learning more. I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions of resources, perhaps on the internet, that I could give her so she can read about it. She just moved back to Texas and I am also wondering if there are any churches there she might look into visiting...if she is interested ( I cannot remember where...it is coastal, though).
