I became an Eastern Christian while living in the west. I think I grew up in the epitome of the contemporary western experience, as I was born and raised in suburban Seattle. I read a lot growing up, and in college I read about the Orthodox Church, began attending, and was received! That was Holy Saturday 2005.
Since then, I\'ve had many mixed experiences, but here I will share only the blessings. I am providentially blessed to live in the cradle of several parishes and even a local monastery - almost all of them in a language I can understand with words to break my hardened heart. I am also blessed to have so many friends I\'ve made from throughout area parishes. My family is supportive, my job is supportive, my living situation is VERY favorable (I live two blocks from our Cathedral), and the Church is amazingly supportive. Our Cathedral\'s community gave us a car, almost all of our furniture, almost all of our kitcehnware, a few meals and much amazing advice. Recently, we attended the annual pilgrimage at the local Monastery and were deeply touched by their hospitality and glowing faith in Jesus Christ.
