Here's a link to an account of his life: http://orthodoxengland.org.uk/stcuth.htm After reading this the first time, it was like a whole new world was opened up about the Orthodoxy in the West. Such a detailed account shows that the saints of the West were the equals of their Eastern counterparts. While we're on the subject, are there any other saints of the West whom anyone admires?
Hi, people, I'm new. I've just completed an article about St. Cuthbert for an upcoming issue of AGAIN magazine. I'm not sure exactly when it'll be out, a few months I guess-- the issue is built around the theme Orthodoxy and Anglicanism
There's St. Brendan The Navigator, Aidan of Lindisfarne ( he's the name saint of my first priest), St. Patrick. A historical fiction novel was written about both Ss. Aidan and Patrick by Stephen Lawhead, who now resides in England with his family.
I have a list of the Relics of British Saints and their locations on my home page if you're interested. There are still many places of pilgrimage there. I remember being at Chester Cathedral and standing next to what remains of St Werberga's shrine and the God-light-bulb went on and I thought - She said the same creed that I do!! I was really inspired to learn about my heritage's saints before others ! Mat SIE
Yet another comment - a Symposium on some Western Saints was given at St Marks Orthodox (WR) Antiochian a few years ago - Here's a link to the talk delivered by Dr Alexandra Olsen of Denver University about St Cuthbert. (Including the icon that now hangs in the private chapel of His Grace Bp Basil....) http://www.westernorthodox.com/stmark/lion/lion2000-12 Enjoy!!
