The Hymn of Kassiani, also known as the Hymn of the Fallen Woman, is a Penitential Hymn in Tone Eight, that is based on the Gospel reading for Holy Wednesday morning and Tuesday evening (Matthew 26:6-16), which speaks of a sinful woman who anoints Jesus' feet with costly ointment (distinguished from a similar incident with a different woman, St. Mary Magdalene). This hymn is chanted only once a year and considered a musical high-point of the Holy Week.
The Byzantine musical composition expresses the poetry so strongly that it leaves many people in a state of prayerful tears. The hymn can last for 25 minutes or more and liturgically and musically it is one of the high points of the year.
The woman figuratively draws a sharp contrast with Judas. She is a repentant sinner, and as she prepares for the death and burial of Christ she is reconciled with God. Judas, who has been given everything by Christ, shows no gratitude and turns his back on salvation.
The theme of anointing is continued in most Orthodox parishes this evening, when the principle service is the Anointing of the Sick. Although these services are not canonically liturgical, they attract large numbers of people, who ask for anointing for both spiritual and physical healing.

تضع الكنيسة أمامنا في يوم الأربعاء المقدّس (تقام الثلاثاء مساءً) صورة المرأة التي دفقت الطيب على رأس يسوع في بيت عنيا (متى 26: 6-16).الترنيمة الشهيرة التي نرنّمها في صلاة الخَتَن، والتي مطلعُها: "يا ربّ إن المرأة التي سقطت في خطايا كثيرة..."، كتبَتْها، على ما يُعتقد، القديسة كَسْياني، وهي الفتاة التي قبلت أن تُرصف بين زميلات لها تَجَمَّعْنَ لكي يختار الإمبراطور عروسا له منهن ، وعندما وقع اختيارهُ عليها لحسنها الفتّان، تذكّرت عفَّتَها ورغْبتها بأن تبقى عروسا للرب
فهربت واختبأت في أحد الأديرة، وأعلنت نفسها نظير تلك الزانية لمرورها بهذه التجربة، وتابت بدموع كثيرة، كما تقول الصلاة، وهكذا تيسّر لها، كما قال أبونا البار يوحنا السلّمي في الزانية: "أن تدفع عشقاً بعشق
