The Lenten Fast is an opportunity for chastening the body. To regain control over our habits that lead us away from God. It is also the time when we enter into our voluntary exile into the desert to regain control over our spirit as well. If we refrain from certain foods but do not refrain from our inherent sinfulness, then what use is it to keep all of the other prohibitions? In this homily, Fr, Benedict discusses this and the way for all Orthodox Christians to fast with integrity this Lenten Season.
