Hello. I'm seven years Orthodox, as of this month, Serbian parish. About to turn 40. Started out Southern Baptist, then Bible Methodist, then was a Puritan/Covenanter for 10 years. Patron saint is Burkhard of Würzburg (a city in one of the Franconian districts of Bavaria, Germany). I am mostly Palatine German-American by heritage, but my real last name is Welsh. Lately I've been reading the Letters of Saint Boniface as translated by Ephraim Emerton. In general, I have a greater interest in pre-Schism Western saints and in the periods of European history known as Late Antiquity and the Early Medieval period (A.D. 235 - 1054), though I also have a special fondness for St. Basil the Great and Imperial Germany (the Kaiserreich, 1871-1919).

I guess I'm mostly here for the chance at fellowship outside of the regular Sunday/Wednesday/Saturday beat, since Facebook banned me for 180 days because it can't determine whether I am human without my giving up anonymity. I gave Orthodox Reddit a chance, and it promptly squandered it with legalistic nonsense (mods who have a tin star but not even one gram of the discernment of Solomon). Hoping this place will be different, during my 180-day exile.

In Christ,
Burkhard Schmorell
