Hello,
This is a new adventure for me. I have never allowed my children or myself to be a part of a chat of any kind on the internet so I am apprehensive. I am trusting in the fact that it is Orthodox. My family of 4 are new catechumens but have been studying the faith now for 2 years. We are excited about what we have learned. Looking forward to browsing around and meeting new Orthodox friends.

Welcome and may God bless your journey. We can be a bit ornery at times, but we all pretty much get along, since for the most part we are all trying to fulfill God\'s call in our lives to be better Christians according to the teachings of the Orthodox Church.

Hello Michele,
You have no reason to feel nervous here. You are among friends. I think of all the Orthodox sites on the Internet, you came across the only one not ruined by politics or back stabbing. OrthodoXCirce is a wonderful place to visit. It is truly an ecumenical (among Orthodox) site with all jurisdictions living in excellent harmony.
All you need now is to fill out your profile a bit. Add a photo of yourself, or your entire family so the rest of us can know who we\'re talking to. This site is flexible and you can add a lot of photos or write about things that are special interests for you. Best of all, you can join any of the topical forums and get involved with serious dialog among serious Orthodox people. Lots of us here are converts but fortunately many are cradle Orthodox too. It\'s a good mix, IMO.

Well we all start out new. I have been chatting on the web for a very long time. I have had some weird experiences but I have had more positive experiences than negative. I met some people in rl (real life) that I have chatted with. It has enriched my life to meet people on here that I may never see in rl. This is to meet other people of like and not so like faith. You can hear horror stories from lots of places besides stuff on the web. It is what you make it. I hope you will find that this is a positive place and remember to use your common sense. While Michael is right about being among friends, I do think it is healthy to keep a watchful regard for all the nasties there are on the internet. We have removed some people in the past who were reported as having sent inappropriate emails and private messages - especially when it appeared that they were targeting minors.
If you encounter someone who is being a real creep, (e.g. predatorial, remarks full of innuendo, probing for personal information, sending URL links to sites that NOBODY ought to visit) send the OC username to any of the staff members and they will take care of it.
I know this isn\'t all that helpful when you\'re feeling nervous about being online - but we cannot protect this site without your help in reporting any incidents.
