Many thanks brother,
Its just that being so bombarded with feel-good televangelism and literature, we as Orthodox try to look for the positives and common ground, sometimes overlooking the flaws. I am in the midst of private little spiritual battles on the home front-and hence this attempt. On another forum on this site, I had introduced myself as follows:
I am from India, presently working in the UAE and a member of the Indian Orthodox Church. I\'ve my wife & 2 kids staying with me. I have been Orthodox all along, albeit nominally. While I am firmly orthodox, my wife, due to familial influences, has pentecostal leanings. Hence, I would like to be equipped when questions arise about the biblical support of issues such as the veneration of Mary and the Saints, prayers for the departed, need for intercession, relevance of icons…etc.
I do not try to enforce my form of expression at home, partly because I am presently unequipped to answer convincingly and partly because I know that Orthodoxy speaks for itself to those who seek to learn of it. I would greatly appreciate if someone could point me to some resources in this context.
Initially, my motive for getting deeper into Orthodoxy was to counter contradicting beliefs on the home front. Now, as I\'ve increasingly been reading a lot of Orthodox material, I\'ve grown to like it and someday hope to see my wife and kids embrace Orthodoxy wholeheartedly.I understand that hostile opposition to other confessions does not work. I\'d appreciate insights from others around here who\'ve been through similar situations.
