Once again, the reason why I resisted joining another forum has emerged in OC, in the form of the surprise \"subscription offer\". Here we go again. We can call it a public confession of bad thoughts, but I really find it hard to believe that there was no prior \"intent\" to turn this site into a subscription service.
I am also scandalized by the idea that the \"subscription\" policy puts a price tag for anyone wishing to learn about Orthodoxy. I thought this forum was supposed to supply that \"service\" for free as sort of a mission. Now, we are in a situation where information about the religion is going to be \"sold\" from this site, and that finds me ethically opposed. Actually, the phrase \"after a lot of prayer\" in the letter we received really irks me when I think of the sale of religious information to catechumens being the result of fervent prayer.
On the other hand, since I was trained in the corporate world to provide suggestions for solutions to every complaint, I would like to propose the following compromise... Leave OC the way it is, and IF you want to charge members for additional future fancy \"services\" that are of some \"business value\" and don\'t contradict ethics, you may do so.
