Blessed Metropolitan Philaret of New York was a confessor of Orthodoxy, known for his leadership of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad as its Chief Hierarch from the early 60s until his death in 1986. He is also noted for his \"Sorrowful Epistles\" written to fellow Chief Hierarchs of the Orthodox Church, in response to the reckless ecumenism of his era that saw the so-called \"Lifting of Anathemas\" by Pope Paul VI of Rome and Ecumenical Patriarch Athenagoras of Constantinople. Blessed Metropolitan Philaret\'s relics are incorrupt and repose in the ROCOR cathedral in New York.
