Sorry... I meant to say... \"to avoid the tempataion of false humility.\"
I do not mean to imply that those who fast are falsy humble.
I know of a monk who once forbade his spiritual children in America to fast on Thanksgiving so they are not tempted to \"puff themselves up.\" with pride that they kept the fast while others didn\'t.
But as I always say... \"To each according to the teachings of their spiritual father.\" Well, I never really said that before, but it sounds like something I\'ll say more often.
