Hope and Johnchan,
I agree that the purpose is to see the spiritual base of this debate. The question I ask myself is what is the responsibility of the Orthodox Christian: American in the US, Serb in Serbia, or Albanian in Albania. Yes, we must pray for God\'s mercy on all those involved. But does our responsibility go beyond that? Should we participate in peaceful, pro-Serbian rallies? Should we speak out against violent, nationalist rallies and the crimes of thugs on both sides?
More importantly, what does this sort of political event say about our own, individual spiritual state? When faced with such a horrible period as the Balkans have experienced since the beginning of the 90s, how do we carry out the Gospel?
As for my own answer, I have found that these sorts of events make me look more closely at those who are suffering. It makes me see how easily I can fall away from the Gospel and look for who\'s right and whose wrong, although God knows that all are sinners. Finally, it makes me see how little I myself do for the one who is suffering.
