I am brand new to this site and it was recommended to me to join and meet some other Orthodox by RobertM, my Subdeacon. He basically told me that it was the Orthodox version of Facebook (gotta put it in those college terms) so I thought I\'d start a thread and see what others had to say. I am a convert, grew up in a non-denominational (pretty much Southern Baptist) Christian household in the Midwest. I had no idea what Orthodoxy was until I was about 15 and watching the classic film the Deer Hunter and the famous wedding scene sparked some interest. Did some research but then put it aside since there were no Orthodox churches near by, until I left the country and started school at the U.S. Naval Academy. I met RobertM and the rest is history. After coming into the Church Sept 17 of last year, I now lead the Orthodox Christian Fellowship at the Academy, with about 7 or 8 midshipmen in our group. Graduating in May, commissioning in the United States Marine Corps, I am looking to develop my faith even more and I know it will influence and guide my decisions in the future. I guess thats the long story short, but I look forward to hearing from other Orthodox and continue my growth in Christ.
