I really like that you posted this. I feel very drawn to entering into dialogue about Christ with atheists. I would love to know what other people think.
Brilliant, but then again this a geronda speaking!
The other day I was listening to the Church of Pireaus radio and the speaker said (pardon the extreme paraphrasing) that all atheists come from the ranks of Christians; you will never find a Budhist, Muslim, Jew or whatever renouncing their faith. Only Christians fall for evil one's wiles.
Well, but that's not actually true, right? Surely there are tons of atheist Jews --- people who are ethnically Jewish but don't believe in God. And I know I've heard of several former Muslims who no longer believe in God.
I don't think there's any faith that nobody's ever left it.
Richard Dawkins was a heart-beat away from my house last Sunday. They had an atheism conference at the Burbank Marriott. I agree with Green Peninc -- there are quite of few non-religious Jews. My son and I argue over the issue of whether being Jewish is just a religion or also an ethnicity.
Yeah there are quite a few atheists that while being ethnically jewish don't believe in God what so ever as there are people from India, Russia, Scotland and so forth. I'm half Irish but I'm not Roman Catholic(although I am catholic in the true sense of the word as I am Orthodox). We should likely be wary of passing judgements based on people's ethnic backgrounds. To do so reminds me of the one(and only)person who ever said to me at church\"What are you doing here? You aren't Greek??\" I told him I was converting and he said \"You can't be Orthodox! Your not Greek!!\"
