I think fasting needs to come FROM a relationship with Christ, not first. I know you are not suggesting otherwise here, but I have found in many cases that people try to fast when they themselves have no real relationship with Christ. There is no motive without relationship to Christ. FIRST discover who Christ is, then we will want to fast to be more like Him.
