Is your legal name the same as your baptismal name?

My baptismal (and Greek) name is Vassilia, but my legal name is Vassi.
I was young when I realized my legal name was not as formal as my baptismal name. My mom taught me my baptismal name was more important and the one that really mattered. One of those many \"seeds\" she planted early.

Actually, I don\'t know why my Mom chose the name \"John\" My sisters were named by hospital staff, usually using the letter of the month that they were born and my brother was given our father\'s name. Sister #3 tried to get Mom to name me \"Charlie\" because she thought it would be cool to have a brother named Charlie Chan.
Fr Joseph kept the name for me, citing The Forerunner to be my patron saint.

Just like every other woman I\'m related to (mom, cousins, grandmothers, godmother, etc.), I was baptized Maria. My legal name is different. My parents wanted me to be totally \"American,\" so they picked out what they thought was an American name for my birth certificate. Each one of us goes by a different version of the name Mary. They tack on my legal name anytime there\'s confusion. This leads to confusion among people who aren\'t related to us, but makes perfect sense inside my family.

How funny! In my family- when we are all together we have 4 Marias- Yiayia Maria, Maria. Mariago, and M&M. And for the boys it was Big and Little Nicky until Little Nicky grew bigger than Big Nicky, and now he\'s Big Little Nicky and the other is Little Big Nicky. But their to stay true to the thread, their legal names and baptismal names are the same. Nicks with Nicks and Marias with Marias.

Umm, James is the anglicised form of Jacob, not of Joseph.

Baptismal name: Cyprian, for the former-sorcerer hieromartyr of Antioch.
Legal name: Clayton, for some distant relative who died before I was born.
Don\'t have a monastic name yet, as I am only a Rhiasaphormonk. Apparently your name gets changed upon tonsure into the little (and later once again, into the great) schema.

Not so lucky here. Birth name is Cody, after Buffalo Bill Cody. There is, insofar as I am aware of, no St. Cody.
So my baptismal name is going to be Vladimir. After Vladimir of Kiev.

My legal name is Rebekah, and as it happens, there is only one St. Rebekah (in the Old Testement). I looked and looked for someone more recent, but I was advised to keep my my name by a nun at our church, so...

I wish I had kept Mary for my Chrismation name. I felt very drawn to Syra so I took her as my saint. I go by Marylee in Albuquerque, but everywhere else in the States and online I go by Syra
