Dear Orthodox friends, If you read any
philosophers,
Which philosophers do you read, and how
does the Church help
you deal with world (secular) philosophy,
whether from the classical, medieval, or
early modern later modern/contemporary
periods?
Just wondering.
Have any of you read Pascal and
Kierkegaard?
I don\'t like the philosophy of Aquinas.
It seems to me to be farther from the
spirit of Orthodoxy than Kierkegaard was,
although Kierkegaard, too, is not in keeping
with everything in Orthodox teaching.
Take care.
Always,
Scott Harrington

Well, my friend, its a yes and no answer. I have read numerous philosophers over the years, but since I became Orthodox some 12 years ago, I don\'t think I have picked up a single one in all that time. I remember some of them fondly, but I couldn\'t tell you much about the particulars of their work. Its all kind of a philosophical haze at this point. Orthodoxy has just eclipsed them all.

Dear Frj: Wouldn\'t you consider Bishop Zizioulas a sort of philosopher for Orthodoxy? \"Being as Communion\" is a rather philosophical work of Orthodox theology; it is not that easy to follow at points, but in some places it is quite clear.
Take care. God bless you, and grant you many years.
Sincerely,
Scott Harrington
