Thanks for your insights.
In a few of Spurgeon\'s discourses (available online), he comes across as a Catholic-hater and frequently uses the word \\"popery\\" derogatively. However, in other sermons he focuses on more general Christian issues such as man\'s lukewarmness to faith, his fallen nature etc. From what I can gather, he had a gift of clearly communicating his thoughts to listeners. So I guess selectively reading Spurgeon (and the others) as long as it doesn\'t conflict with Orthodox teaching is OK.
In the place where I live, its rather hard to find quality Orthodox material. So could someone point me to such resources available online.
God bless

hello ryans-rohit,
welcome here!
I think, as orthodox christians we should avoid reading rom.cath as well as protestant writings. except that we are rather adult in our faith. But why should we? Our faith is so totally different from rom/cath and protest. faith and we should try to nourish ourself on orthodox material, and there is plenty of it. Try google with \\"books orthodox\\" and you will find several online shops with orthodox literature.
God bless, dear brother.

When I initially came to Orthodoxy, my wife thought I was crazy! I had dragged her to so many churches looking for truth that she was not anxious to make another trip. She did follow me after about 6 months however only after she \\"saw\\" a difference in me. I would recommend \\"Dancing Alone\\" Frankie Schaeffer this a good source of information to understand so many things; The Enlightenment, the Romantic Movement, the Renaissance, the Reformation, etc As far as The Theotokos is concerned I would recommend \\"The Life of the Virgin Mary the Theotokos\\" by the Holy Apostles Convent in Buena Vista, Colorado. as far as the Pentacostal leanings, I would suggest Fr Seraphim Roses book : Orthodoxy and the Religion of the Future\\" God Bless you and hang in there.

There are a lot of great Orthodox books out there that may help your struggle to have some anwsers for your friends. One that is very good apprently is a book called, \\"Surprised by Christ\\" (even though its from a more Jewish perspective at first, it is still very good!) \\"West of Jesus: The Bible\'s Anwser to the Protesants Departure\\", as well as I\'m sure many other great books that others can offer. As well as talking to priests, especially ones who were former Protesant ministers turned priests....and so on.
My husband (boyfriend at the time) had been Methodist, and wasn\'t so sure about the whole Orthodox thing. Slowly but surely, with patience and prayers, as well as reading good books on his own....he finally came around, thank God!
I had one lady come up to me one day, looking ready for a fight, she said to me, \\"Why do the Orthodox say that they are the Fullness of Truth? It seems a little prideful and silly to me.\\" I was somewhat surprised by her very harsh question, and not being very theologically intelligent in these matters, could only come up with, \\"Well I guess really because it was the first!\\" :D

Thanks indeed to each one of you for your help. Its really wonderful to realize that once we get deeper into Orthodoxy, it seems less of an ordeal. To the uninitiated, it can seem like a whole lot of needless ritualism and distracting formalities. Therefore, the key to get more people interested in Orthodoxy, I guess would be to let the change be reflected in our daily lives and routines.
Once again, wonderful to be here!
God bless
