With Kosovo \"expected\" to declare independence sometime Sunday, is anyone else not feeling entirely optimistic here?
Besides the fact that the Orthodox will most likely be persecuted, there is to consider the international repercussions:
1) other minority secession groups will demand to be granted independence. One example would be the Basque people of Spain and France.
2) Putin has said that if Kosovo is given independence than he should be able to bring in the regions of South Ossetia and Abkazia from Georgia.
3) Kosovo has always been part of Serbia. The only exceptions are during the Ottoman days and WW2. Taking Kosovo would be like taking Washington DC, New York and the other thirteen original states.
Thine thoughts?

Mike did you even read ANY of the material in the links I posted? I\'m just wondering..
Kosovo is Soutern Serbia, sorry it is. I do feel badly for the state of Albania and Albanian people, I do. However, illegally migrating into Serbia and TERRORIZING it\'s population to spread its borders is not the answer good Sir. I would think as an Albanian Orthodox you would be more willing to speak openly of these things as many other Albanian Orthodox and Catholics have, even on National Radio shows like the Sean Hannity show... Maybe you just don\'t know about these things.. Regardless, I support 100% the independance of McDonalds - we are moving in to Micky D\'s tonight it is ours and is historically ours... just waiting on the EU... I need a Big Mac.

Albanian police control protesters in Sarande, 300 kilometers (180 miles) south of Tirana where Greek President Karolos Papoulias was expected to meet with his Albanian counterpart Alfred Moisiu Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005. Papoulias cancelled the trip because of the protest while he was in the nearby Albanian town of Gjirokastra, 50 kilometers (30 miles) north of Sarande. The members of an Albanian minority deported from Chameria, Greece, at the end of World War II for alleged partnership with Italian Fascists and German Nazis claimed for lost property and for Greek citizenship. Michalis, You just answered me. Do you want me to reply to your p.s. comment. Is it a question? I don\'t get it. Because nothing I said about stability was retrospective but prospective. 1999, not a good year. Milosevic was still in power doing what he did best: abusing it for all.
NATO and US bombs fell on more than just monasteries; they were kinda all over the place. Stability?
Oh wait...you were being ironic. Okay, I get it. Joke\'s on me. The whole irony is wrong thing followed by an ironic \"thing\", whatever the syntax of the post-script comment is, it was ironic and a joke on me.

I have absolutely no time to participate in this debate nor even to read all posts, but I have to congratulate Nikola for his composure and reason.
Keep in mind you guys that debating in a forum is not about showing who\'s tougher nor about calling up others on what you interpret as biases when in fact they are just different (maybe more experienced) ways to look at the same facts.
The object I suppose is to reach the truth through debate (as much as possible anyway), not to [ersonally exchange insults or pretend you are superior.
So with that yes Mike these three would be useful:
A.) Know about International Politics
B.) Know History
C.) Refrain from being biased
The only quick conclusion I can draw is that propaganda works... If I start saying it long enough that I\'ve always been a red-head and after 10 years I do dye my hair red, then in 20 years you\'ll probably have believed me..

John, why would you tell whomever you are speaking with that Nikola says hi? That\'s not very nice of you if you\'re being sarcastic. Im sure they already know I said hallo. If they don\'t, then by all means do tell them so. :D
Regardless...
Southern Serbia remains southern Serbia. No other nation has the right to redefine the borders of a Sovereign nation, period.
You yourself admitted this to be an internal problem and a border control problem. You are quite correct! Albanians flooded Kosovo and pushed thousands of Serbians out and you would simply shrug this off and give them a country? What kind of logic is this? It\'s baffling is what it is just baffling... I\'m not sure if you can grasp any of this. I certainly hope that you can especially if you are going to be brokering peace in the region.
Do a little homework and you\'ll see that the KLA is a terrorist organization. The EU is aiding and abetting a terrorist action. This is unjust and illegal and is violating the safety, security and sovereignty of Serbia and the Serbian people there in. This invalid and illegal should not be recognized.
That said, if you WANTED to be helpful you\'d assist Serbia in disarming the terrorists. You would help Serbia secure it’s southern border. I don\'t really think this would provide to much of a challenge for Great Britain, would it? Send the RTR over to camp our Sothern border for a year with us. Start investigating who\'s in Kosovo illegally and who\'s guilty of what while the whole time marinating the sovereignty and stability of this region of Serbia while preserving the rule of law and not the Rule of Terrorism. If the EU is so very concerned with stability in the region then why not help Serbia secure its borders which have existed for centuries? Wouldn’t that have the most de facto stabilizing effect?
The war on terror exists for Serbia. Serbs have shed their blood defending their people and their nation. Innocent Serbian civilians been brutally massacred. I don’t think because some clerks or investigators tabulate more Albanian victims than Serbian (on any given day) that entitles Albanians living southern Serbia to some new fangled nation carved out of Serbia. By the way we’ve lived with Albanians peacefully in that region for a long time. I don’t think that getting sick of living conditions in Albania entitles them to break Serbian law and violate the borders of Serbia while murdering, raping, terrorizing and displacing THOUSANDS of Serbian civilians. This is expansionism and global terrorism at its worst.
Serbia has been and will continue fighting against Al Quada, Mujahideen and any other Imperialist and Terrorist Muslim expansionism.
Serbia has not expanded it’s borders but is rather defending the safety and sovereignty of the Serbian nation and Serbian people. Tell me, who has benefited from all of this? Honestly now, who? Well the most notable answer is the fundamentalist Islamic world as they have, my terrorism propaganda and force of arms wrest a chunk of sovereign land away from a sovereign nation and a sovereign people and all the while under the EU flag. The Serbian people are not victorious nor are they greedy they are defending their home.
If you\'d take the time to research a bit you might come to realize how the Serbs have been brutally mistreated and just how criminal these actions are against Serbia.
Quite laughable.

those who know a little whats going on now in Kosovo ,know that drug dealing and human trafficking is the main economic activity of the albanian community.
February 20, 2008.
Appearing on TV JOJ\'s weekly politics talkshow \'De Facto\' on Tuesday night, Slovak Deputy Premier for European Affairs Dusan Caplovic, commenting on Kosovo\'s decision to declare independence from Serbia on Sunday, called the breakaway province \"Drogovo\" (\"The Drug State\").
\"That\'s my opinion. Everybody knows what\'s going on there. We know very well where drugs, white meat and guns flow through in order to get into Europe,\" said Caplovic, stressing that he will never vote in favour of Kosovo\'s independence.
Christian Democrat (KDH) chairman Pavol Hrusovsky, who was also appearing on the show, said that we are now witnessing something that we\'ve never seen before: \"That all the powerful people from individual countries, knowing that the essential principles of international law have been broken and that a new state has been born within another state without the latter\'s approval, are recognising this with such ease.\"

During World War II and the Holocaust, Kosovar Albanians killed 10,000 Kosovo Serbs and expelled 100,000. Kosovo-Metohija was made a part of a Greater Albania by Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini. Hitler and Mussolini realized the Greater Albania ideology established by the 1878 League of Prizren. Albanian-settled areas of the Balkans---Kosovo-Metohija, western Skopje, southern Montenegro---were incorporated in a Greater Albania.
The Greater Albania Kosovar Albanian nationalist movement murdered Kosovo Serb civilians and took over their lands and houses. Kosovo Serb women were raped.
Kosovo Serb Orthodox priests were arrested, tortured, and murdered. Serbian Orthodox churches and monasteries were attacked and destroyed.
Serbian monuments, cemeteries, and gravestones were desecrated and demolished.
The Greater Albania nationalist movement formed the Balli Kombetar, the Albanian Kosovo Committee, and the Skanderbeg Nazi SS Division, two-thirds of whose members were Kosovar Albanian Muslims.
Kosovar Albanian Muslims played a major role in the Holocaust, the murder of European Jews. Kosovar Albanian Nazi SS troops participated in the roundup of Kosovo Jews who were later killed at Bergen-Belsen. What occurred in Kosovo during World War II was genocide. The mainstream accounts of World War II have censored and covered up the Kosovar Albanian role in the genocide against Kosovo Serbs and the role of Kosovar Albanians in the Holocaust. The Nazi past of Kosovo remains an untold story.

The KLA is a terrorist organization.
Albanians have been illegally migrated into Serbia in droves. .
As recently as 2004 Albanians living in southern Serbia destroyed over 40 Orthodox Churches.
Albanians in southern Serbia have been harassing our Monasteries. Albanian youth defecate in the streams of fresh water that flow near the Monasteries thereby poisoning their only water source. Monastics living through this nightmare tearfully ask for your prayers.
Many Albanians living in Serbia have been responsible for the systematic rape torture and murder of countless Serbian Orthodox there. Are you even aware of what went on in Jabljenica?
This my friend is nothing more than a brutal attempt to create a greater Albania. It’s nothing new although it is shocking and appalling.
Also, please substantiate your points. Provide links and reliable sources to back up the the bold claims you make here.
Lastly I must urge caution. Kosovo is indeed a Holy Ground and is the venerated site of a mass Orthodox Serbian martyrdom. I’m not sure what you meant by:
Mikel09 wrote:
"The famous date that Serbs like to bring up is 1339...the historic battle where they were defeated by the Ottomans to "protect" Orthodoxy"
The above statement could be very easily taken in the wrong context. I\'m hopeful that you didn\'t mean it in any negative or derogatory way. (By the way the Battle of Kosovo occurred in 1389 not 1339...)
In addition:
Mikel09 wrote:
What they fail to remember however, is that in 1332, those same Albanians that live in the Kosovo region now, were also attacked by the Ottomans and forced to convert to Islam --- explaining WHY the majority of Kosovo-Albanians are Muslim nowadays.
Can you please substantiate this? The simple facts are the Ottoman Turks invaded Serbia and were met on the plains of Kosovo by Holy Marty Saint Czar Lazar. Kosovo was no more or no less significant that any other Serbian land at this time. Our Holy Czar choose to lay down his life for his faith in Christ rather than willingly subjugate his people to Islam - he choose a Kingdom of Heavenly riches rather than the Sultans worldly ones. They all received the Sacraments before the great battle and his incorrupt remains are still safely kept in a Monastery.
Please don’t marginalize the great Martyrdom of the Serbs in 1389 who died “protecting“ their Faith and their Kingdom.
I still don’t see how any of this gives you the right to claim southern Serbia as your own.
History aside, thanks for wishing me good luck in regards to an apparent quest I have for a Big Mac! I must inform you, though, that I was only using a bit of humor to illustrate a point which apparently you may have missed. The gist was that an individual or group of people can’t walk into a McDonalds and claim it as their own property any more than the KLA, Albanians (illegal or legal) can terrorize Southern Serbia,, plant their flag and legitimately lay claim it as their own.
Serbia is a Sovereign Orthodox nation.

MOSCOW. Feb 22 (Interfax) - Russian Ambassador to NATO Dmitry Rogozin does not rule out the fact that Russia could use force to protect its interests.
\"Today, if the EU works out a single position or if NATO steps beyond its mandate in Kosovo, these organizations will be in conflict with the UN, and then I think we will also begin operating under the assumption that in order to be respected one needs to use force,\" Rogozin said in a televised linkup with Brussels.
