Dear Orthodox friends,
I am not judging anyone or anything
But I don\'t want to have a myth about
Orthodoxy that it had no problems
that were not in other Christian confessions
the Catholics had their papal inquisitions
and the Protestants had their Reformation
and they both burned people at the
stake and had their sectarian wars
especially in the 16th century
and the witch hunts in Puritan New England
did anyone in the Orthodox Church ever
burn people at the stake? was their
violence and persecution in Byzantium?
Didn\'t SOME of the Old Believers burn
themselves to death? Weren\'t some of
the Old Believers burned to death by
the official Russian Orthodox Church?
I say this not to judge or criticize; I under-
stand that these things probably happened;
it is just that my understanding is the
Orthodox Church is blessed in that she has
been must more peaceful and much less
violent than the Popes of Rome and the
Protestants during the 16th Century
and there was until recently much
Protestant and Catholic bloodshed in
Northern Ireland
What is the truth?
The truth will make us all free.
Always,
