Meaning of \\"may his memory be eternal\\"

Yes, this term is used in all Orthodox churches. The Greeks say \\"Aeonia i mnimi\\", Slavs say \\"Vyechnaya pamyat\\". Both terms mean \\"eternal memory\\".

I\'ve always heard that it implies that you hope you will always be in God\'s memory. People will eventually forget you, but we hope that our souls are always remembered by God. If God forgets us, we\'re nothing.

I remember a vinyl recording of the Panikhida from the 1960\'s with liner notes by Fr. Schmemann that stated that we all live in the eternal memory of God, for whom all things are an infinite and eternal present.
